A short story, written while I was on holiday.

Nightfall

December 2023

A mere 40 years later, this is the follow up to "Valley of the Kings". It's a text adventure, set in a fictional East European country. This one really took far longer than it should have done.

Bubbles

August 2023

This little game arose from the idea of fans blowing bubbles and how the latter's movement would change across a spatial area. It isn't a good game, sadly, but an interesting learning experience.

In a Flap 2

January 2023

This game requires a reasonably modern PC to run it (within the last 4 years or so). It's a platform game but a little more ambitious than its predecessor, with scrolling levels and various other features.

In A Flap!

May 2021

A game inspired by the wonderful Jumping Jack on the ZX Spectrum. Written in JavaScript (no doubt very badly, although I am learning... slowly!).

Space Raiders

March 2021

My homage to the mighty Arcadia, a game for the ZX Spectrum that I loved playing many years ago. My first attempt at introducing different levels and a (simple) scrolling background.

Lunar Rescue

February 2021

My second attempt at writing a game in JavaScript. Very simple but hopefully fun to play. Inspired by all those 16k ZX Spectrum games I played back in the early 80s.

Bat n Ball

January 2021

I decided to try to keep my brain active during the interminable lockdown, so attempted to learn enough JavaScript to write a simple game. This is it. It's awful, but I had to start somewhere...

Tadpoles!

July 2020

Videos made for the children of Coleman Road Infants School, during lockdown. Great fun to make and Suz makes a great presenter :)

Invaderz

January 2020

Further adventures in MS Small Basic. A very simple shooter, fun to write and a useful learning experience.

This game isn't available online, but you can download it below. You will need MS Small Basic to play it.

Snowballs

December 2019

After a mere 35 year gap, I thought I'd try writing a new game. I used MS Small Basic, which is very simple but ideal for dipping a toe in the water.

Heigham Park Rangers

2010-2016

I spent a lot of time during this period helping to run a kids' football club. I also put together the club's first website, which was my first attempt at doing anything on the web. It is long since defunct, but I still have some screenshots to remind me how bad it was!

RPG Adventures

January 2014

I used to help run an RPG gaming club in Thetford back in the 80s. I wrote these adventures to give my own children a taste of dungeon crawling.

Card Cricket

2007

A game created to while away a few hours on holiday, when it seemed to be raining non-stop!

Valley of the Kings

October 1984

Written for the 48k ZX Spectrum, in glorious Sinclair Basic, this little text adventure was eventually advertised in C&VG (in VERY small type) and we sold just one copy. I remember the excitement when we received our one and only order! I wrote the game while my friend Paul prepared the loading screen and sorted out the "business" side of things.

You will need to download a ZX Spectrum emulator to play this game.

The game was obviously copied and distributed, because today you can find it on various ZX Spectrum websites. You can even find the solution online:

Cells & Hunch

August 1984

My first attempts at programming on the ZX Spectrum, which ended up being published in Home Computing Weekly. My friend David produced the graphics, while I wrote the games. I've never got round to typing them in and lost the cassette tape long ago, but the listing can be downloaded below.

You will also see my friend Paul's game, Starfox, listed alongside Cells and Hunch. "Three of a kind", as the magazine put it :)

Music

Various

Various bits and pieces written over the years. Not my strongest suit, to put it mildly!

You can also download some very old tracks below. Some of the songs from the 80s were written by my friend Gary, but I can't remember who wrote which song.
